Course Overview

The Certificate II in Health Support Services qualification allows students to start a career within the Health  sector by introducing basic skills and knowledge in a broad range of units.  This course is recommended for those who would like to build their numeracy literacy skills, gain confidence with computer skills and learn about the health industry.  Some units completed in this course can be used as credits to further study in other health programs.

Students will learn about the importance of working with people from diverse backgrounds, the ability to communicate when working with in the health sector or community sector, comply with infection prevention, transport individuals, prepare and maintain beds, and explore basic food safety. This course will help students develop skills and knowledge that can be transferred  into a variety of health care environments. The program has practical components which will be delivered in a simulated laboratory  on campus, to assist in preparing  students for the Health workforce environment.

Qualifications and Recognition

Upon successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the Certificate II in Health Support Services.

Career Opportunities

This qualification will assist students wanting to potentially gain employment within a Health care setting. Roles may include Ward assistant, Orderly, Food services assistant and Laundry attendant.

Recommended entry requirements

  • Physical mobility, this program has a physical component of manual handling including transferring patients.
