Working on farms in Gippsland can offer a wide variety of daily job experiences, from tractor and machinery operation to building farm fences and animal and land care.
This qualification provides a general vocational outcome in agriculture, enabling you to study a selection of generalist units in livestock, agronomy and practical farm skills. Whether you’re looking to start a career in the food and fibre industry or already working in the sector and wish to fine tune your skills and knowledge, this course will ensure you’re conducting tasks in your workplace safely.

Upon successful completion of AHC20122 Certificate II in Agriculture, students will have gained skills and knowledge to seek employment in the agriculture industry. Common job roles for certificate II level employees include but are not limited to:
Assistant animal attendant/stockperson
Assistant farm or station hand/worker/labourer

Saleyard livestock worker
Depending on the units selected individuals can be employed not only in agriculture but also other rural and regional sectors.

Entry Requirements

Are there specified requirements for entry into the course/qualification?: No

Mandatory entry requirements:

VDSS Students: Student must be 16 years of age or older to be operate machinery such as Tractors, according to manufacturer specifications.
School Based Apprentice / Trainee (SBAT): Must be 15 years or older to undertake a SBAT. Student must be 16 years of age or older to be operate machinery such as Tractors, according to manufacturer specifications.
Profile Students: Minimum age of 17 years (this is not a training package requirement). Profile students in Victoria must be 17 years of age or older and not enrolled at secondary school to be eligible to enrol in this qualification.

Recommended entry Requirements:

The farm machinery used for skills development in this course have manufacturer's specifications that require operators / students to be a minimum of 16 years of age to operate.
We recommend that students have previous experience in vehicle operation (Car or Tractor). For example L Plates Driving hours experience and or on farm vehicle operation experience.
It is strongly recommended that students should have access to a computer or laptop out of class hours to support their independent learning.

Limitations to course Entry:

Some units of competency included in this qualification may require the ability to operate machinery such as tractors , agricultural front end loaders some manufacturer's specifications require that require operators / students to be a minimum of 16 years of age to operate.
Students must have access to a reliable internet connection.
Students must have access to a computer or tablet that will support course work to be completed in our Learning Management System Moodle. We recommend that this also includes a headset (integrated microphone and earphones).
Students working within the agricultural industry must be physically fit, this includes the ability to bend and lift. Students must be able to spend considerable time on their feet throughout their working day.
