Course Overview
Having your License to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane will open many doors and lead you into a huge variety of exciting, thriving industries. Cranes are used in a huge range of settings where heavy loads need to be moved and transported. You could find yourself working in manufacturing plants, construction sites, mines, maritime ports, and so much more.
If you want to try your hand in a few different industries, this qualification can help you get there. Throughout this course, you’ll develop your skills and learn the safest methods of operating a crane. You’ll learn how to conduct pre-operational checks, how to set up and shut down the crane, site planning and additional skills that will enable you to work as a crane operator to the highest standards.
A licence to perform High Risk Work is issued by WorkSafe Victoria. On successful completion of this course, you can apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a license to perform high risk work. What to bring
The Work Safety Centre is classified as a 'Construction Zone' so the student must wear appropriate safety PPE at all times. As a minimum high visibility clothing (shirt or vest) and steel cap safety boots must be worn at all times. In addition please ensure you bring a safety helmet and safety glasses for high risk tasks.
Students are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to commencement of training and also bring the following to meet WorkSafe Victoria licensing requirements:
- Passport or Drivers Licence or proof of ID card, and
- Proof of Victorian residence (utilities bill or bank statement)
- Dogging licence (DG)
Qualifications and Recognition
Upon successful completion of this course participants will be eligible to be assessed for a National Certificate of Competency.Career Opportunities

Course and Entry Requirements
Mandatory entry requirements
Must be a minimum of 18 years old. Training and assessment for the Unit of Competency does not entail any pre-requisite requirements.
Recommended entry requirements
Have literacy and numeracy skills at sufficient level to be able to undertake training and assessment in English.
Limitations to entry
As per WorkSafe requirements the assessment will be conducted in the English language. Translators cannot be used for the assessment. Must be in attendance for the duration of this 5 day course.
