About this course
The Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology provides the skills and knowledge required to service and repair automotive air-conditioning systems.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn to identify, diagnose, service, and repair automotive air-conditioning systems, including degassing, evacuating, and charging systems with refrigerant gas — all in compliance with Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) regulations.
Career Opportunities
This course enables qualified automotive technicians or final-year apprentices to gain the skills and knowledge required to apply for a Refrigerant Handling Licence (RHL) through the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC).

• Identify and diagnose faults in automotive air-conditioning systems.
• Safely degas, evacuate, and recharge systems with refrigerant gas.

Mandatory entry requirements:
To be eligible to enrol in this course, students must meet the following mandatory requirements:
Hold a relevant qualification, such as:
• Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Light Vehicle or equivalent), or
• Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology (or equivalent).
• Provide evidence of substantial automotive industry experience, demonstrating current involvement in vehicle servicing and repair activities.
Limitations to course Entry:
Non-qualified automotive technicians cannot be enrolled in this course, as they will not meet the prerequisite unit requirements.
To be eligible, students must hold a Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Light Vehicle) or Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology, or be in the final year of an approved apprenticeship.
