CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure and Health

General Admission Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or over
  • Prospective student to complete online application form
  • Minimum ACSF level 3 in all levels
  • Provide Police Check in each year of placement without disclosures
  • Proved Working with Children’s Check without disclosures
  • Flu vaccination in high peak flu season
  • Must be able to attend the full time course 3-4 days per week on campus as per the timetable
  • Complete 120 hours placement as arranged by TAFE Gippsland

Inherent Requirements

Inherent Requirements are the components of a course or unit that demonstrates a student’s ability, knowledge and skills in order to achieve the stated learning outcomes of the course or unit.  In order for students to be deemed competent within a course or unit Inherent Requirements must be met by all students.

Where students may require reasonable adjustments to a course or unit as a result of disability or other impacts on study these actions must not undermine the academic integrity of the course, unit or learning outcome. TAFE Gippsland is committed to making reasonable adjustments to teaching and learning, assessment and placement.

Prospective students of the Certificate IV in Leisure and Health are required to review the following Inherent Requirements prior to proceeding with enrolment to ensure you are aware of any difficulties you may have to meet these requirements.

Physical Stamina

Student has the ability to stand for long periods of time, complete shifts of physical work (up to 8 hours), physically manage practical class requirements and have the physical stamina to complete 120 hours of placement.  During these extended periods of time student must have the mental endurance to maintain focus and concentration to ensure safe practices.

What is expected of student:

  • The ability to stand with short breaks for the duration of an 8 hour period.
  • The ability to walk for extended periods as required for practical activities.
  • Complete multiple physical and mental tasks over the period of a shift with the stamina to provide safe care.

Strength and mobility

Student must be able to perform gross motor skills such as lifting, carrying, pushing, standing, twisting and bending.  While manual handling and equipment is available, role does require the ability to perform physical tasks safely to protect individual, other staff and participants.

What is expected of student:

  • The ability to lift safety at least 20kg of weight.
  • Stable physical mobility in order to transfer and aid a patient with walking.
  • The ability to assist patients to move from lying to sitting or to standing all while completing some weight bearing activities.

Work within multiple health care environments

Students within the Certificate IV Leisure and Health are required to complete practical placement and work in health care settings with vulnerable patients as a result student must have related immunisations.

Students are required to demonstrate the ability to work in health settings.

What is expected of student:

  • Flu Vax
  • Covid - 19

Students who as result of a medical condition, disability or personal choice are unable to or choose not to have the above immunisations must advise on entry.

Communication (verbal / non-verbal)

Student has the ability to interact with fellow students, staff and patients in a practical setting in English in order to provide safe delivery of care and fulfil course requirements.

  • The ability to understand and respond to verbal communication.
  • Verbally communicate clear instructions and explanations.
  • The ability to respond to verbal instructions or communicate in a timely manner.

Communication (written)

Student is able to produce written materials required for the classroom and practical setting.

What is expected of student:

  • To produce coherent written communication appropriate to patient care and classroom activities.
  • Clear, concise, accurate and time efficient writing including the ability to produce hand written notes.
  • Recording information using computer based systems (typing).
  • Writing reports and assessments for classroom based activities and practical environments such as client assessment results and treatment plans.
  • Digital literacy skills in order to navigate TAFE Gippsland online Learning Management System.
  • Regular access to Student hub in order to be up to date with course information including class changes.

Behaviour

Student must demonstrate knowledge of and ability to adhere to the ethical behaviour requirements in all course environments (pre enrolment, classroom based activities and placement).

What is expected of student:

  • Demonstrating the ability to maintain confidentiality of information in the practical setting.
  • Ability to take responsibility for behaviour and respond to feedback.
  • Remain alert and maintain focus whilst providing client care or activities.
  • Acting ethically in regards to completion of all course work including plagiarism and following reasonable instruction during classroom based and practical placement.

Mental wellness

Mental Wellness is the ability to recognise individual abilities and respond to normal stresses of life, study and work.

Student demonstrates the ability to moderate their own behaviour with behavioural stability in order to function in a diverse and challenging academic and practical environment.

What is expected of student:

  • Responding appropriately to constructive feedback.
  • Managing own emotions and behaviour effectively when dealing with individuals in practical and classroom setting.
  • Manage multiple, complex demands.
  • Remain focused and engaged during tasks to ensure participant care.
  • Manage personal emotions and behaviour when working with fellow students, staff and participants.
