Apprenticeship
A hands-on training process whereby students learn a skilled trade. Takes place over an agreed upon period during which time, a person learns a trade by being employed in it and undertaking formal training with a registered training provider.

Certificate I and II
Introductory level courses designed to prepare students for work or further study. In trade sectors, some of these programs are also referred to as pre-apprenticeships, which provide students with valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance their prospects of securing an apprenticeship.

Certificate III
At this level, courses may provide apprenticeship training, or workplace skills for a wide range of industries. In some sectors, certificate III level qualifications may be required before you can commence work.

Certificate IV
Courses at this level are designed to prepare students for working in areas that may require complex skills. After completing a certificate IV level course, you may be qualified to take on a supervisory role in the workplace.

Diploma and Advanced Diploma
Diploma courses are designed to assist individuals to develop the skills necessary for running a small business, working closely with experienced professionals or operating at a high level of technical capacity. This qualification can also provide significant credits toward some university programs.
Advanced diploma courses generally expand upon diploma level qualifications to provide training for supervisory and middle management positions, where employees are expected to possess a high level of expertise within a particular skill area. as with a diploma, advanced diploma courses can provide you with significant credits toward university programs.

Dual Awards
In certain cases, credit transfer opportunities exist when two qualifications are undertaken concurrently. A number of units studied in one qualification can count towards the second qualification, depending on the relevant packaging rules.

Flexible Study Mode
Flexible study modes may include online, workbook, workplace components, enable students to study at their own pace or elect which days they attend campus.

Pre-apprenticeship
(ALSO PRE-VOCATIONAL TRAINING)
A course that provides initial training in a particular industry or occupation. Successful completion can assist participants in obtaining an apprenticeship or traineeship, and may enable the term of the training agreement to be reduced.

Skills Recognition
Skills Recognition enables us to formally acknowledge your skills and knowledge acquired outside of the formal education and training system. This includes competencies you may have gained through previous study, work experience and life experience such as leisure pursuits or voluntary work.

Student Loan
Students experiencing difficulties in paying their enrolment fees, materials fee or for course related text books may be entitled to apply for a student loan.

Study Mode
Courses are offered via a range of study modes. This course guide recognises these modes to include Full-time, Part-time, Apprenticeship, Non-Apprenticeship, Traineeship and Flexible.

Traineeship
A training process which takes place over an agreed period, during which time a person learns by being employed in a suitable role and undertaking formal training with a registered training provider. Traineeship durations may vary dependent on individual circumstances.

VET FEE-HELP
VET FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth Government loan scheme, for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, that is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP).

VET Student Loans commenced on 1 January 2017 and replaced the VET FEE-HELP scheme. As part of the transition, existing VET FEE-HELP students may continue receiving a VET FEE HELP loan in 2017 provided certain requirements are met. VET Student Loans
VET Student Loans are available to assist eligible students studying higher level vocational education and training (VET) qualifications to pay their tuition fees. Higher level VET qualifications are at those at a Diploma level and above.  VET Student loans are capped at a maximum for each approved course of study and the amount of the loan cannot be greater than your remaining FEE-HELP balance. Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is the certificate that the majority of students in Victoria receive on satisfactory completion of their secondary education. The VCE provides diverse pathways to further study or training at university or TAFE and to employment.
