Skills or Knowledge gained

The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as two specialist fields of work.
The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
In this course students will learn both theoretical and practical aspects of painting and decorating enabling them to complete their apprenticeship and attain trade accreditation.
This course will develop skills in painting & preparation, wall papering, modern and traditional decorative finishes, spray painting, clear timber finishing, colour matching, texture coatings, sustainable painting practices, industrial painting and graffiti barrier coatings & removal techniques

Entry Requirements

Are there specified requirements for entry into the course/qualification?: Yes

Mandatory entry requirements:

Students must be employed as an Apprentice in painting and decorating to undertake this qualification.
Must be 15 years of age or older for a School Based Apprenticeship.
If students are no longer at secondary school and are under 17 years of age they must have a "school leaving certificate" from the Department of Education before they can enrol in this qualification.

Limitations to course Entry:

For each learner enrolling in a vocational qualification, regardless of eligible or ineligible status under the Victorian Training Guarantee, TAFE Gippsland will conduct a Pre-Training Review of current competencies (including literacy and numeracy skills) prior to commencement in training.
