This course will help you develop a broad understanding of manufacturing joinery components while using specialist, computer-controlled machinery. You’ll learn important skills in manufacturing and installing doors and window frames, constructing and assembling stairs and much more.
This hands-on qualification is designed to put your skills into practice as you learn them. That’s why all apprentices attend 10 x three-day blocks per year for the duration of your apprenticeship.
These learning days are designed to make sure your skills are where they should be, with our teachers there to support you through that every step of the way. And because you work and learn at the same time, you can start working in your chosen industry sooner – sounds pretty good to us!
When you complete this course, you’ll be confident and skilled enough to either begin working as a tradesperson or choose to take your career further by becoming a business owner or site supervisor.

Skills or Knowledge gained

CPC31920 Certificate III in Joinery offers the following skills and knowledge:
The trade skills required to become a qualified Joiner including safe operation and correct use of hand tools, power tools and static machinery related to the joinery industry. Basic programming and operation of CNC machines. Project based joinery tasks including window and door manufacture.
This covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of skills at trade-level for those working in the joinery/shop-fitting/ kitchen manufacturing industries. Installation skills may be applied to new or renovation work. The work is in a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader related activities involving known routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures and within known time constraints, this qualification offers a generic Certificate III in Joinery,

Entry Requirements

Are there specified requirements for entry into the course/qualification?: Yes

Mandatory entry requirements:

Students must be employed as an Apprentice in CPC31920 Certificate III in Joinery to undertake this qualification.
Must be 15 years of age or older for a School Based Apprenticeship.
If students are no longer at secondary school and are under 17 years of age they must have a "school leaving certificate" from the Department of Education before they can enrol in this qualification.

Recommended entry Requirements:

Students should have access to a computer or laptop and a reliable internet connection for the 3 years of their studies.

Limitations to course Entry:

For each learner enrolling in a vocational qualification, regardless of eligible or ineligible status under the Victorian Training Guarantee, TAFE Gippsland will conduct a Pre-Training Review of current competencies (including literacy and numeracy skills) prior to commencement in training.
