Certificate III in Beauty Services
Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to work in the beauty industry, providing a range of beauty services in salons, day spas and cosmetic retail environments. Employment opportunities may include:

VDSS Hair & Beauty Skill Set
Students who successfully complete the VDSS Hair & Beauty Skill Set will develop practical, industry-relevant skills that can be applied in hairdressing and beauty salon environments. They will also be eligible for credit towards selected Hair and Beauty qualifications, providing a valuable head start in their training.
This course can give students a competitive advantage when applying for a hairdressing apprenticeship, beauty services or beauty therapy traineeship, or entry-level roles such as a salon assistant. It also provides a pathway into further study, including:

- SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing

Students enrolled in the full qualification will gain practical skills in spray tanning, manicures and pedicures, eyelash extensions, lash and brow treatments, waxing, make-up application, scalp massage and Indian head massage. Students will also develop knowledge of beauty industry products and practices, customer service, reception operations and infection control standards.
VDSS students will develop practical skills in shampooing and scalp massage techniques, blow-drying and hair braiding, eyebrow waxing and tinting, lash lifting and tinting, and make-up application. They will also gain valuable customer service and reception skills, along with professional presentation, communication and employability skills.

Are there specified requirements for entry into the course/qualification?: Yes

Mandatory entry requirements:

Certificate III in Beauty Services
- Students must be at least 16 years of age.
- Students under 17 years of age must provide a school exemption prior to enrolment.
- Applicants should have an appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills. A Pre-Training Review and interview will be completed prior to enrolment to ensure the course is suitable for your needs.
- Practical assessments are conducted on paying clients. Students will be required to arrange models for practical assessment activities.
- As part of the training, students will provide beauty services to members of the public in the TAFE training salon, helping them gain valuable real-world experience.
VDSS Hair & Beauty Skill Set
- Students must be at least 15 years of age.

Recommended entry Requirements:

Learners who enjoy working with people, have strong communication skills, and have a genuine interest in the beauty industry are well suited to this course.

Will this course/qualification or a constituent unit provide a pathway to an industry licence or regulated outcome: No

This course will allow you to put your new skills into practice both in and out of the classroom while working within industry.
Taught over a 14-month period two days per week at our Traralgon campus, this course will teach you all the practical skills needed to work in a beauty salon as a beautician, in a retail environment or even become self-employed.
