About this course

Boost your confidence and your employment opportunities with a Certificate III in Beauty Services at TAFE Gippsland.
Taught over a 10-month period just three days a week at our Bairnsdale campus, you'll put new skills into practice in a simulated salon environment that will help prepare you to make your mark in the beauty biz.

Our expert trainers will guide every step of the way, making sure you feel comfortable and confident in your studies – while also letting your creativity shine. You’ll learn a range of different beauty techniques such as manicures and pedicures (gel and dip powder nail enhancements), waxing services, lash and brow treatments, cosmetic tanning and make-up application, as well as key salon skills like effective communication, reception duties and product and service advice.
A move into further study might see you take up a Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy or a Diploma of Beauty Therapy to add to your skillset and increase your opportunities.

VDSS Skillset-
Once you have successfully completed the Hair & Beauty Skill Set you will have a greater understanding of both the Hair and Beauty Industries and be able to pathway into one of our Hair & Beauty Qualifications with multiple unit credits! On completion of this skillset course learners will be able to continue on their studies within the Beauty Industry or Hairdressing Industry by enrolling in SHB30121 Certificate III in Beauty Services, SHB40121 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy (Traineeship), SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy or SHB30416 Certificate in III Hairdressing.

Entry Requirements

Are there specified requirements for entry into the course/qualification?: Yes

Mandatory entry requirements:

-16 years of age.
-Applicants are required to have an appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills, which will be evaluated prior to course intake. Pre Training Review and interview will be required prior to enrolment.
-All assessments are mandatory to be completed on live models. It is the responsibility of the student to organise models for all practical assessments.

Recommended entry Requirements:

Learners with excellent people skills and a genuine interest in the Beauty Industry

Qualifications and Recognition - 2025

Upon successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the Certificate III in Beauty Services.

Students are required to complete at least 38 hours in a Commercial Salon Environment for unit SHBBHRS010 Provide waxing services completing a minimum of 12 waxing services.

About this course

Don't give your day job!
This course will allow you to put your new skills into practice both in and out of the classroom while working within industry.
Taught over a 14-month period two nights per week at our Traralgon campus, this course will teach you all the practical skills needed to work in a beauty salon as a beautician, in a retail environment or even become self-employed.
