Your dream career in the beauty industry is within reach at TAFE Gippsland.
Delivered over 20 months, three days per week, this course is led by our expert beauty therapy team at the Traralgon Campus. You’ll be guided and supported every step of the way as you refine your skills and build confidence in a professional, spa-inspired learning environment.
Our expert trainers will support you every step of the way in your learning journey, guiding you through a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services. You’ll gain hands-on experience in advanced skin treatments such as microdermabrasion and facial peels, as well as luxurious spa therapies including hot stone massage, aromatherapy massage, and superficial lymphatic massage. Your skills will also extend to body massage, eyelash extensions, manicures, pedicures, gel polish, make-up services, and waxing. To complete your professional edge, you’ll master precision techniques in brow mapping, lash and brow tinting, and lash lifting.
You’ll also learn how to consult with clients and provide personalised beauty advice, recommend treatments and services, and promote retail skincare and cosmetic products.
From working in leading salons and spas, running your own business, or even travelling the world to destination resorts, this qualification opens the door to a wealth of career opportunities.
And if you’d like to take your studies even further, you can pursue an Advanced Diploma of Skin Therapy, a Bachelor of Dermal Sciences, or a Bachelor of Health Science (not offered at TAFE Gippsland), creating even more exciting pathways for your future.

Skills or Knowledge gained
You'll learn how to provide a range of beauty services for clients including:
- Body massage including aromatherapy, hot stone techniques, lymphatic and Indian head massage
- Full-body waxing services and lash and brow tinting/lash lifting
- Manicures and pedicures including electric filing
- Makeup application
- Eyelash extensions
- Spa services
- Advanced skin treatments including microdermabrasion and facial peels
- Anatomy and physiology of the skin and body
Students will also gain knowledge of the beauty industry and products along with customer service, retail skills and reception skills.

Are there specified requirements for entry into the course/qualification?: No
Mandatory entry requirements:
-Applicants are required to have an appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills, which will be evaluated prior to course intake. Pre Training Review and Interview will be required prior to enrolment.
-All assessments are mandatory to be completed on live models. It is the responsibility of the student to organise models for all practical assessments.
Recommended entry Requirements:
Learners with excellent people and communication skills and a genuine interest in the Beauty & Spa Industry.
Limitations to course Entry:
Learners with limited language, literacy and numeracy skills are advised to complete a Certificate III in Beauty Services or Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy before moving onto Diploma level.

Qualifications and Recognition - 2026
Upon successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the Diploma of Beauty Therapy.
Work Placement - 2026
Does this course require placement?: Yes
Students are required to complete at least 38 hours in a Commercial Salon Environment for unit SHBBHRS010 Provide waxing services completing a minimum of 12 Waxing Services and for units SHBBBOS008 Provide body massages and SHBBFAS005 Provide facial treatments and skin care recommendations completing all assessments.

VET Student Loans
VET Student Loans are available to assist eligible students studying higher level vocational education and training (VET) qualifications to pay their tuition fees. Higher level VET qualifications are at those at a Diploma level and above. VET Student loans are capped at a maximum for each approved course of study and the amount of the loan cannot be greater than your remaining FEE-HELP balance. If eligible for a student loan, you can access up to $18,838.00 in 2025 and $19,290 in 2026 to help cover the tuition fees for this course.
