About this course

Gain confidence and experience in a salon environment with this hands-on course.
Delivered two days per week over a 20-week period, this course will teach you how to interact with customers professionally and communicate in the workplace, while increasing your career opportunities for the future.

Get the knowledge and skills needed to work in a hairdressing salon. With a focus on high-quality customer service skills and basic hairdressing tasks including shampoo services, basic blow drying and hair braiding, this course is designed to give you hands-on experience working with real clients in our simulated training salons.

Career Opportunities

The combined skills and knowledge do not provide for a job outcome as a hairdresser and this qualification is intended to prepare individuals for further training.
Possible employment outcomes may include working as a salon assistant and providing the following services including assisting senior hairdressers with applying hair colour product, performing basic blow waves, shampooing clients, setting up workspaces, carrying out reception duties and scheduling clients, communicating and interacting with staff and clients to ensure a positive and safe salon environment.

Skills or Knowledge gained

You will gain skills and knowledge to work as a salon assistant including but not limited to:
- Salon communication
- Conducting financial transactions
- Basic blow waving and drying of hair
- Braiding of hair
- Shampoo and basin services for clients
- Reception duties
- Interacting with and providing service to clients
- Product and service knowledge within the hairdressing industry.

Mandatory entry requirements:

If aged between 16 and 17 applicants must have a part-time job with a minimum of 12 hours per week to obtain their school exit form.
