About this course
There are two ways to undertake training in Certificate III Hairdressing. You can gain an apprenticeship within a hairdressing salon and attend TAFE as part of your employment or attend TAFE as a non apprentice student.
The apprenticeship pathway requires you to be employed as an apprentice hairdresser in a registered hairdressing salon.
We have multiple training arrangements for apprentices to choose from including single day release, block release or workplace training. All on campus classes run from 9am to 4pm.
Day Release Training is available at Bairnsdale, Leongatha and Traralgon Campuses. Apprentices attend campus 1 day per week for 36 weeks each year.
Traralgon: Apprentices can choose to attend on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Leongatha: Apprentices can choose to attend on a Monday or Tuesday
Bairnsdale: Apprentices can choose to attend on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Block Release Training is available at our Bairnsdale and Traralgon Campuses.
Apprentices are required to attend Monday through to Thursday every 4 weeks for a block of study. Apprentices attend TAFE for 9 block rotations each year.
Workplace Training is also available for Hairdressing Apprentices for those who wish to learn on the job within their salon and have a TAFE assessor come to you.

WORKPLACE TRAINING DELIVERY
Learn on the job and we will come to you!
100% workplace delivery model allows you to be mentored by senior staff within your salon whilst undertaking your hairdressing studies via our online platform. You will be guided by our workplace teacher who will visit you within your workplace 8 times throughout the year (twice per term) along with regular phone/zoom calls to ensure you are progressing through your required learning and assessments.
*Salons must meet TAFE guidelines and criteria to ensure a workplace training model is suitable.
*If a salon is unable to meet all required assessment conditions per unit of competency the apprentice must attend on campus at TAFE Gippsland to undertake learning and assessment for that unit.
