Course Description
This course will teach you the skills required to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (ewp) with a boom length of 11 metres or more.
You will learn how to operate, set-up, position and work safely from a boom-type elevated work platform. In this instance, a boom-type elevating work platform can refer to a hinged device, an articulated device, a telescoping device or a combination of any of these, which are then used to support a platform for elevated materials and personnel.
This course will teach you the skills to:
- Operate an elevating work platform with a platform height 11 metres or more
- Position, stabilise and set up elevating work platforms
- Understand elevating work platform characteristics and capabilities
- Estimation of loads
- Effective communication skills
- Identify hazards and assess risks associated with operation
- Conduct pre-operational checks and identify faults
- Check and assess condition of safety harness and lanyard

Upon completion of this course students will receive a Statement of Attainment. A licence to perform High Risk Work is issued by WorkSafe Victoria. On successful completion of this course, you can apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a license to perform high risk work. There is a fee payable to WorkSafe for a High Risk Licence. On completion of this course, and making application to WorkSafe Victoria for a High Risk Work Licence in the class of Boom type elevated work platform (WP) , holders of this class of High Risk Work Licence are able to begin working on constructions sites and can operate specific types of elevated work platforms (EWPs) safely and effectively in different locations, including on uneven terrain. This includes: locating, setting up, operating and shutting down self-propelled boom lifts with a boom length over 11 metres.

Entry Requirements
Must be minimum 18 years of age
Applicants will be required to undertake pre-course reading and an activity book to ensure an understanding of the learning content that will be reviewed in the class contact time. These materials will be supplied to the students upon enrolment.
Students must provide valid identification documents to the WorkSafe Victoria standards, such as a current Victorian drivers licence.
Have literacy and numeracy skills at sufficient level to be able to undertake training and assessment in English.
