Course Description
The role of a crane operator is to lift and shift heavy objects around construction sites, mines, docks, and other work sites.
Learn the skills required to safely operate a slewing mobile crane (a crane with a swinging boom or jib) with a capacity up to 60 tonnes.
Upon completion of this course, you’ll be eligible to apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a High-Risk Work Licence for the class C6.
This unit specifies the outcomes required to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 60 tonnes). At the successful completion of this unit you will complete a National Assessment Instrument (NAI). On successful completion of the NAI you can apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a High Risk Work Licence in the class C6-Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 60 tonne).
On completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge to:
- Plan operations: Hazard management and consultation.
- Pre-operational Inspections: Crane and associated equipment.
- Set up: Outriggers, crane boom and lifting equipment.
- Transfer loads: Shift loads with slings and mobile loads.
- Conclude operations: Shut down and pack up crane and equipment following site specific procedures.

Upon completion of this course students will receive a Statement of Attainment. A licence to perform High Risk Work is issued by WorkSafe Victoria. On successful completion of this course, you can apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a license to perform high risk work. There is a fee payable to WorkSafe for a High Risk Licence. Successful completion of this course allows you to apply for the License to Operate Slewing Mobile Crane (up to 60 tonnes) and the licence would allow the licensee to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 60 tonnes) in a variety of roles.

Entry Requirements
Minimum of 18 years of age.
Recommended entry requirements:
Applicants will be required to undertake pre-course reading and an activity book to ensure an understanding of the learning content that will be reviewed in the class contact time. These materials will be supplied to the students upon enrolment.
Students must provide valid identification documents to the WorkSafe Victoria standards, such as a current Victorian drivers licence.
Have literacy and numeracy skills at sufficient level to be able to undertake training and assessment in English.
Limitations to entry:
Must be in attendance for the duration of this 5 day course.
