Course Overview
It is a legal requirement that all persons operating a VHF Marine Radio hold a Short Range Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency or SROCP. This includes recreational vessels as well as commercial operators.
This qualifications fulfils the marine radio requirements for the Coxswain Grade 1 and 2 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency.
SEAMEC offers Marine Radio Operator training to both Commercial and Recreational boat operators. Our training is conducted by qualified and experienced trainers so you can be assured you will receive quality training which is up-to-date.
At the completion of the course an examination will be conducted. This examination is administered by the Australian Maritime College on behalf of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). Upon passing the exam, students will receive their SROCP licence in the mail.
You will learn:
- Operator and legislative requirements
- Digital Selective Calling (DSC)
- How to access Search and Rescue services
- Use of Emergency Position Indicator Radio Beacons (EPIRB) and other location equipment
- Practical use of VHF Marine Radio
- Care and maintenance of radio communication equipment
Please note that previously issued MROCVP and MROCP qualifications are considered by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to be equivalent to the SROCP and LROCP respectively. Older qualifications such as RROCP - Restricted Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency ROCP - Radio Operator's Certificate of Proficiency are not equivalent. |
