When you study this course, you’ll gain skills in a number of areas, including welding, drainage, sanitation, water supply, gas fitting, roofing, and so much more – no wonder plumbers are one of the most highly sought-after tradespeople going around.

Designed so you can work and study at the same time, you’ll complete this course while you work with an employer, putting your new skills into action straight away. This will allow you to gain real-world experience from the very beginning, increasing your chances for employment later on.

Not only that, during the three years it takes to complete this course, you’ll also be guided by our expert teachers when you complete the on-campus part of this qualification, meaning you’ll have a variety of people helping you achieve success.

When you finish this course, you’ll become a qualified plumber and be eligible to sit the Victorian Building Authority Plumbing Registration exam, after which you’ll become a registered plumber.

You will then be able to work in the industry, gaining hands-on experience while you decide if you want to take your career further. Going further might mean studying a Certificate IV in Plumbing Services. This course will add to your skills and increase your employment opportunities.

Career Opportunities

Successful completion of the Certificate III in Plumbing  can enable students to be eligible to sit the Victorian Building Authority Plumbing Registration exam, upon successful completion of this exam it will allow the student to become registered as a Plumber on the completion of their apprenticeship. Given this is a apprenticeship qualification, students will already be employed in industry. They will also then be eligible to work as a registered plumber in the streams successfully completed.

CPC32420 Certificate III in Plumbing - offers students the opportunity to develop the following skills and knowledge:
Communication with clients, colleagues and others using clear and direct forms of communication whilst actively listening and identifying and confirming requirements for the task or job to be carried out.
Obtaining and understanding all relevant trade and technical terms, symbols, abbreviations and language, working as part of a team, providing assistance and encouragement to other team members, utilising specialist skills that are part of the team and using these strengths to the best of their abilities.
ability to ensure that that equipment is checked regularly and up to date meeting site and job requirements and where applicable any hazards are reported and documented.
Throughout their training, apprentices may choose to undertake additional streams. These streams may include;
Water
Drainage
Sanitary
Roofing
Gasfitting
Each stream will provide the skills and knowledge to undertake these roles within the plumbing industry.

Entry Requirements

Are there specified requirements for entry into the course/qualification?: Yes

Mandatory entry requirements:

Students must be employed as an Apprentice in Certificate III in Plumbing to undertake this qualification.
Must be 15 years of age or older for a School Based Apprenticeship.
If students are no longer at secondary school and are under 17 years of age they must have a "school leaving certificate" from the Department of Education before they can enrol in this qualification.

Recommended entry Requirements:

Students should have access to a computer or laptop to and a reliable internet connection for the 3 years of their studies

Limitations to course Entry:

For each Learner enrolling in a vocational qualification, regardless of eligible or ineligible status under the Victorian Training Guarantee, TAFE Gippsland will conduct a Pre-Training Review of current competencies (including literacy and numeracy skills) prior to commencement in training.

Once you have successfully completed the requirements CPC32420 Certificate III in Plumbing as an Australia Apprentice you can apply to undertake a VBA exam "Journeyman Exam" of each class you wish to be registered for.
