Course Overview

This pre-apprenticeship course for VET Delivered to School Students (VDSS) will give you a head start in the industry, as you learn practical workplace skills involving basic hand and power tool use and the necessary knowledge to get your foot in the door. You’ll also learn basic interview skills and resume writing to enhance your job seeking techniques for when you’re ready to enter the workforce.

Entry Requirements

Literacy and numeracy

Students enrolling in 22586VIC should possess language, literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to interpret technical information, complete written activities, perform basic mathematical calculations, and communicate effectively in classroom and practical environments. Learners are recommended to have literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 2 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). Students requiring additional support may be referred to Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support services to assist successful course completion.

Physical capacity and mobility

Students enrolling in 22586VIC should possess the physical capacity and mobility required to safely participate in practical training activities undertaken in workshop, laboratory, and simulated workplace environments.

This may include the ability to:

  • safely use hand tools, equipment, and technology-based resources
  • undertake basic manual handling activities
  • stand, walk, bend, and move for extended periods during practical tasks
  • work safely around electrical, mechanical, and technology equipment
  • wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) where required

Completing the training product

To successfully complete 22586VIC, students are required to:
