Certificate IV in School Based Education Support

This course will equip you with the skills to work with teachers, primary and secondary school students, their families and other professionals in a school setting. Students will develop the skills and knowledge to enable them to provide enriching, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences and a supportive learning environment for primary and secondary school students.
You will develop knowledge in childhood development, literacy, and numeracy development, behaviour management strategies, policy and legislation and curriculum implementation. Through both the classroom and practical placements students will have the opportunity to set up learning experiences, become familiar with relevant policy and procedures, and how to provide a safe learning and work environment.

Mandatory entry requirements:

Students must obtain a clear National Police Check and Working With Children Check to participate in the workplace component of this course.
Students must also have a laptop with a camera and microphone for online classes and support sessions, if required.
Additionally, students will undergo a pre-training review (PTR), which includes a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment, as well as a phone interview.
Some workplace settings may require proof of vaccinations.

Recommended entry Requirements:

Basic digital literacy skills, including experience using Microsoft Office 365.

Limitations to course Entry:

This course includes a mandatory workplace component in a school setting to complete practical assessments.
The inherent requirements for education support workers' roles and responsibilities include:
* Providing a child-safe environment (being able to move quickly if a child is in danger)
* Offering basic physical and emotional care for students (assisting with toileting, managing student behavior, supporting children with disabilities, which may include lifting, administering medication, and performing required treatments)
* Supervising in the playground, and during camps, excursions, and sporting activities and events
* Supporting the teaching team (may include setting up activities and supervising small or large group activities)
* Setting up and putting away learning materials and resources both indoors and outdoors, as required
* Standing for long periods, getting down to a child's level, and engaging in activities at a table or floor level
