A security licence is a doorway to a rewarding career where you could be called upon to assist in an initial emergency response, critical incidents or deter and prevent crime at high risk facilities.
Security personnel come from diverse backgrounds and age groups, but the one thing they all have in common is a commitment to preserving safety and security within their area of responsibility. We can help you get on your way to an exciting new future.
Taught at our Yallourn campus on a full-time basis for 18 days, you’ll be qualified in no time and ready to begin working in a number of areas.
Some of these areas could be as a Licensed Security Officer, as well as a variety of roles across several business sectors. These roles may include, but not limited to;
- Security at pubs, sporting clubs, night clubs
- Security at sporting events such as racing, football, soccer, cricket, etc
- Security at concerts, music festivals
- Mobile patrols/alarm responses guard
- Security at educational institutions
- Security at major shopping centre/complexes
- Security or guard at critical infrastructure such power, gas and mining
- Security at hospitals
- Security at major events
- Security or guard at industrial complexes
- Security at airports
- Security at seaports
- Security at logistics hubs
- Security or guard at a variety of retail complexes
Not only that, a Certificate II in Security Operations also allows you to take your security career even further by studying a Certificate III in Security Operations, or a Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management. Both these courses are designed to add to your skillset and increase your employment opportunities.
So, if you have good eyesight and hearing, the physical characteristics capable of undergoing basic defensive tactics training and can successfully complete a Police background check, then you have what it takes to complete security training.
Please note, successful completion of a Certificate II Security Operations is a requirement for licensing as a security guard within the state of Victoria.

PLEASE NOTE:
Persons seeking to obtain a security licence within the state of Victoria must:
- Successfully complete an approved security training course,
- Apply for a security licence via Victoria Police.
Successful graduates of Certificate II in Security Operations will have completed the training requirements of Victorian Security Licensing. Completion of the course DOES NOT guarantee a security licence or employment in the security industry.
After successfully completing the training course the graduate is required to apply to Victoria Police for their security licence. To ensure the safety of all Victorians, there are minimum standards that all licence applicants are required to meet before they are eligible to perform work within the private security.
These requirements are outlined in the relevant Victoria Police Security licence form.
To be eligible for a private security licence in the State of Victoria, you must:
- be 18 years or over,
- be a resident of Australia or be the holder of a current visa (with relevant work rights)
- be subject to a National Police Check which requires the taking of your fingerprints
- provide certified copies of International Police Checks from any other country resided in for a period of more than 12 months over the previous 10 years since turning 16 years of age
- not be a prohibited person
- be a fit and proper person – this includes not having any medical condition or history with police that would hinder your employment within the industry
- demonstrate competency for working in the security industry by completing training relevant to the private security activity or activities you wish to be licensed for with a training organisation approved by the Licensing and Regulation Division
- provide two written references outlining your suitability for employment within the private security industry.

- attend a course information session (refer candidate to Course Coordinator to advise).
- conduct a pre course face to face interview with trainer,
- conduct LLN assessment face to face with trainer before enrolment (do not send online LLN documentation)
