Course Description
This skill set covers the essential skills and knowledge required to inspect and service hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) systems and components in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.
It is designed for qualified automotive technicians who need to safely work on hybrid electrical systems as part of modern vehicle maintenance, fault-finding and repair tasks.
This skill set provides the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to safely inspect and service hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) systems and components in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.
This skill set will be delivered concurrently with AURSS00064 Battery Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set to support broader EV capability across the region.

This skill set supports employment in roles such as:
- Hybrid Electric Vehicle Service Technician
- Automotive Electrical Technician (HEV-capable)
- Light Vehicle Mechanic with hybrid servicing capabilities
- Heavy Vehicle Mechanic servicing hybrid systems (where applicable)
It provides the required skills for technicians working in dealerships, independent workshops, fleet maintenance environments, and specialist electrical/EV service centres.

- AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or equivalent (not on offer at TAFE Gippsland)
- AUR40616 Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent (not on offer at TAFE Gippsland)
Some units provide credit towards AUR40620 Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology, AUR32721 Certificate III in Automotive Electric Vehicle Technology and other qualifications that allow for selection of these units.

Mandatory entry requirements:
To hold
- AUR30316 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent or
- AUR30616 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent or
- AUR31116 Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
Recommended entry requirements:
- Current employment in the automotive retail, service or repair industry
- Ability to safely undertake mechanical and electrical servicing tasks in a workshop environment
Limitations to entry:
- There are no additional limitations to entry beyond the mandatory qualification requirements.
