Course Description
TAFE Gippsland is offering Victorian Government subsidised, accredited training courses to help people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic re-skill and find work in the construction industry.
Start your journey to becoming a scaffolder by completing this basic scaffolding course, one of industry’s most essential skills. With industry expert scaffolders as your trainers, this course will give your career a great boost.
Throughout this five-day scaffolding safety course, you’ll learn the skills required to erect, alter and dismantle modular or prefabricated scaffolding to any height. Plus, you’ll also find out how to carefully install and dismantle cantilevered material hoists (up to 500kg), gin wheels, safety nets, static lines and mobile scaffolds.
To complete this scaffolding safety course, you’ll take part in both practical and theoretical training sessions, including written assessments and scaffolding equipment calculations.
A licence to perform High Risk Work is issued by WorkSafe Victoria. On successful completion of this course, you can apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a license to perform high risk work. Being a scaffolder involves setting up or dismantling scaffolding to create work platforms and handrails on buildings or constructions sites.
Course attendees who pass this assessment and are deemed competent will be eligible to apply for and obtain their WorkSafe High-risk Licence for basic scaffolding.

Entry Requirements
Mandatory entry requirements:
Must be minimum of 18 years old. Students will be required to apply for enrolment. A starter will be forwarded to the student, this will include a Pre-Training Review (PTR) requiring completion, the PTR will be reviewed by a trainer. An invitation to complete an online Enrolment Form will be forwarded to the student to complete the enrolment process. Enrolments will need to be complete five days prior to delivery.
Recommended entry requirements:
Applicants will be required to undertake pre-course reading and an activity book to ensure an understanding of the learning content that will be reviewed in the class contact time. These materials will be supplied to the students upon enrolment. Students must provide valid identification documents to the WorkSafe Victoria standards, such as a current Victorian drivers licence. Have literacy and numeracy skills at sufficient level to be able to undertake training and assessment in English.
Limitations to entry:
These courses are subsidised and will be exempt from the usual Government-subsidised eligibility criteria. Participants can enrol in up to three skill sets (Short Courses).
