Course Description

TAFE Gippsland is offering Victorian Government subsidised, accredited training courses to help people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic re-skill and find work in the construction industry.

This basic rigging course covers the movement of plant and equipment, steel erections, hoists (including mast climbing hoists), placement of pre-cast concrete, safety nets and static lines, perimeter safety screens and more.

The perform basic rigger course provides all the knowledge and skills necessary to satisfy the requirements of the qualification – CPCCLRG3001 – Licence to perform rigging basic level. Learn about the safe erection of structural steel work and the use of lifting gear to shift large items of plant. Basic rigging includes:

  • Structural steel erection
  • Hoists
  • Pre-cast concrete members of a structure
  • Safety nets and static lines
  • Mast climbing work platforms
  • Perimeter safety screens and shutters, and
  • Cantilevered crane-loading platforms.

Qualifications and Recognition

Upon completion of this course students will receive a Statement of Attainment. A licence to perform High Risk Work is issued by WorkSafe Victoria. On successful completion of this course, you can apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a license to perform high risk work. There is a fee payable to WorkSafe for a High Risk Licence. Career Opportunities

On completion of this course, and making application to WorkSafe Victoria for a High Risk Work Licence in the class of Rigging Basic (RB) , holders of this class of High Risk Work Licence are able to begin working on constructions sites as a basic rigger. This licence is also the pre-requisite to be able to undertake further training as an Intermediate Rigger.

Entry Requirements

Mandatory entry requirements:
  • This unit has a pre-requisite requirement. This requirement may be met by either the successful completion of the unit CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging or holding a valid licence for dogging.
  • Students will be required to apply for enrolment. A starter pack will be forwarded to the student, this will include a Pre-Training Review (PTR) requiring completion, to ensure students suitability for this training. An invitation to complete an online Enrolment Form will be forwarded to the student to complete the enrolment process. Enrolments will need to be complete tendays prior to delivery.

Recommended entry requirements:

  • Applicants will be required to undertake pre-course reading and an activity book to ensure an understanding of the learning content that will be reviewed in the class contact time. These materials will be supplied to the students upon enrolment.
  • Students must provide valid identification documents to the WorkSafe Victoria standards, such as a current Victorian driver's licence. Have literacy and numeracy skills at sufficient level to be able to undertake training and assessment in English.
Limitations to entry:
  • These courses are subsidised and will be exempt from the usual Government-subsidised eligibility criteria. Participants can enrol in up to two skill sets (Short Courses) per year.
