Course and Entry Requirements

Mandatory entry requirements:
Prior Completion of Foundational Training: Successful completion of the initial 4WD training course, which must include the following accredited units (or equivalent) from the Forest and Wood Products (FWP) training package:
  • FWPCOT3325: Operate four wheel drive vehicles on unsealed roads
  • FWPCOT3329: Perform Complex Four Wheel Drive Operations
  • FWPCOT3326: Recover Four Wheel Drive Vehicle
Relevant Experience: Current or recent hands-on experience operating 4WD vehicles in unsealed or complex terrains. This demonstrates maintained competency and familiarity with practical applications.
Licensing: Valid Australian Driver's Licence: Students must hold a current Australian driver's licence, which can be provisional (P-plates) or full. This is a standard requirement for any 4WD operation training to ensure legal eligibility to drive vehicles during practical sessions.
Physical Fitness: Participants must be physically fit enough to operate a 4WD vehicle, including handling recovery equipment and navigating challenging terrains. This includes the ability to perform tasks like winching or self-recovery without undue risk.
Literacy and Numeracy: Basic skills to communicate clearly (verbally and in writing), read instructions, and complete assessments.
