Course Dates
Enrol in TAFE Gippsland's 4WD Training Short Course to gain essential skills for operating and recovering four-wheel drive (4x4) vehicles in demanding rural and remote environments.
This three-day program is designed for individuals working in sectors like forestry, agriculture, construction, tourism, and energy. Delivered at our Forestec campus in East Gippsland, it emphasises compliance with workplace procedures, state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation, and applicable standards.
Learners will develop proficiency in performing complex 4x4 vehicle operations over rugged terrain, including steep inclines, mud, sand, rocks, and uneven surfaces, as well as safe water crossings. The course also covers using recovery equipment and advanced techniques to extract bogged vehicles in difficult conditions, such as kinetic strap pulls, winching, and self-recovery methods.
Through a blend of theory and hands-on practice, learners prepare vehicles, assess risks, plan routes, and execute operations while prioritising environmental protection and team communication. Upon completion, receive nationally recognised accredited units of competency in FWPCOT3325 (operate 4WD on unsealed roads), FWPCOT3329 (perform complex 4WD operations), and FWPCOT3326 (recover 4WD vehicles), boosting safety and efficiency in your industry role. These accredited units will support Workplace Safety Management Systems and provide relevant professional development opportunities for existing workers
