Morwell-HECTC-TAFE-Gippsland

A major infrastructure project will be celebrated today as TAFE Gippsland welcomes Minister for Training and Skills, Hon Gayle Tierney, to Gippsland.

TAFE Gippsland’s newly completed Health and Early Childhood Training Centre (HECTC), located at the Morwell campus, will be officially opened by Minister Tierney this morning.

The HECTC is Stage 1 of a $35.5 million capital redevelopment project which also includes the emerging Morwell Trade Skills Centre currently under construction.

Minister Tierney is visiting Gippsland to take part in two events; opening the HECTC facility before moving to Yallourn campus to launch a new Bio-manufacturing Training Centre. (See separate release)

TAFE Gippsland’s chief executive, Mr Grant Radford, and Board Chair Des Powell AM, will welcome the Minister and invite her to unveil a commemorative plaque at the Morwell campus HECTC building.

“Our redeveloped vocational training facilities at our Morwell campus are all about delivering on our commitments to students, staff and the community,” Mr Radford said.

“The Health and Early Childhood Training Centre at Morwell is providing a quality vocational training experience and first class training facilities suited to a range of local health industry disciplines.”

Mr Radford said the milestone event continues a significant period of transformation at TAFE Gippsland.

“With redevelopment works underway to refurbish and expand our Warragul campus, the addition of the HECTC and Morwell Trade Skills Centre at our Morwell campus and the development of a new campus at the Port of Sale - all due for completion by the end of 2021 - TAFE Gippsland is undertaking a tremendous investment in quality training facilities to enhance the student experience,” Mr Radford said.

“We are looking forward to the completion of these projects and the boost that they will bring to vocational training and new career opportunities as we recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19 in Gippsland.”

Nursing, Individual Support (Aged Care) and Early Childhood Education and Care students have already been learning in the new training facility at Morwell during the final terms of 2020.
