TAFE-Gippsland-MTSC-Opening

A major vocational training infrastructure project is being celebrated today as TAFE Gippsland welcomes the Minister for Training and Skills, Hon Gayle Tierney, to Morwell in Gippsland.

TAFE Gippsland’s newly completed Morwell Trade Skills Centre (MTSC), located at our Morwell campus, will be officially opened by Minister Tierney this morning.

The MTSC is Stage 2 of a $35.5 million campus redevelopment project which included our Health and Early Childhood Training Centre that was officially opened in early 2021.

TAFE Gippsland’s chief executive officer, Mr Grant Radford, and Board Chair, Mr Paul Buckley, PSM, will welcome the Minister and local MLC Harriet Shing, and invite them to unveil a commemorative plaque at the MTSC building after a tour and opening ceremony formalities.

Mr Radford said it was an exciting time for TAFE Gippsland with major capital projects being delivered in 2022.

“Our redeveloped vocational training facilities at Morwell campus are all about delivering on our commitments to students, staff and the Latrobe Valley community,” Mr Radford said.

“The Morwell Trades Skills Centre is already providing high quality vocational trade training experience and these first class training facilities are suited to the needs of our local trade industry disciplines.”

Mr Radford said the opening of the MTSC continues a significant period of transformation at TAFE Gippsland.

“We have refurbished and expanded our Warragul campus and now with the addition of our new HECTC and MTSC buildings here at Morwell campus, we are well placed to deliver first class TAFE training to our students in modern fit-for-purpose facilities,” Mr Radford said.

“We are also about to complete our new Port of Sale campus in Wellington Shire, and this underlines the tremendous investment in quality training facilities at TAFE Gippsland by the Victorian Government to enhance the student and learning experience.”

“The completion of these major projects is deeply satisfying and our Gippsland community should be excited about the boost that they will bring to vocational training and new career opportunities as we recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19 in Gippsland.”

Construction of the Morwell Trade Skills Centre began in mid-2020 and was completed in late December 2021. Vocational training courses in Electrotechnology, New Energy Technologies, Instrumentation and Plumbing, have now moved from Yallourn to Morwell campus, commencing in February (Term 1) 2022.
