TAFE-Gippsland-solar-training

TAFE Gippsland has been announced as the sole TAFE registered training organisation (RTO) of solar PV and battery design and installation skills training in Victoria.

Budding electricians and electrical engineering students looking to gain specialist solar industry skills can now do so at TAFE Gippsland with courses underway and more planned in 2022.

The free training was announced by Solar Victoria this month with a funding investment package of $11 million aimed at “growing Victoria’s clean energy workforce and skilling Victorians to take advantage of jobs in the booming renewables sector”.

Solar Victoria’s chief executive officer, Mr Stan Krpan, said, “Victoria’s solar and renewable energy sector is booming and is expected to grow exponentially over the next decade, as we transition to a clean energy future”.

In response, TAFE Gippsland chief executive officer, Mr Grant Radford, also welcomed the announcement saying it is “an excellent opportunity for current and prospective workers in the electrical industry”.

“Funding from Solar Victoria will assist TAFE Gippsland in providing this training free to all electricians and electrical engineers, not just those working in solar-approved industries and businesses,” Mr Radford said.

“The free training is available now through until December 2022 and I am delighted that TAFE Gippsland is one of just two RTOs offering enrolments into these important new training streams,” Mr Radford said.

Mr Radford said the new training opportunities will allow current electrical professionals, apprentices, and women to upskill into solar-related training.

“The training will help meet the growing demand for renewables by increasing the student’s knowledge to design solar PV and battery systems,” he said.

“It is also enabling TAFE Gippsland to respond nimbly to the training needs of this emerging new energy sector and respond to the broader community need as more and more people shift to renewable technology in their homes and businesses.”
