It’s official!

It was great to have Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney MP in Sale yesterday to help officially open our shiny new Port of Sale campus. Also on hand to celebrate were TAFE Gippsland Interim CEO Linda Austin, Wellington Shire Mayor Cr Ian Bye, board members, staff, industry partners and GLaWAC’s Aunty Sandra Pattern, who opened the event with a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country.

Minister Tierney praised the efforts of everyone involved in this major development, which will ensure local students have access to the latest in training and technology.

Funded by the State Government, the new fit-for-purpose facility is now Wellington’s flagship campus, supported by Gtech on Cobains Road and the Flexible Learning Centre (FLC) in the heart of Sale’s CBD.

Specifically designed for training in sectors experiencing skills shortages like the automotive industry, building, engineering, carpentry, allied health, aged care, childcare and hairdressing, the new campus will help accommodate the growth in demand for TAFE training in the region, while retaining its specialised learning to VCAL students at the Gtec campus.

Onsite, specialised training in these fields will ensure local students are prepared to enter the workforce with not only the skills they need, but those that will take them to the next level.

Nothing short of a huge collaborative effort saw this much-anticipated major milestone come to fruition. We look forward to beginning this new chapter for education, training and skills for Gippsland and opening doors for the region’s next generation of trainees, upskillers and career creators for many years to come.
