Over recent weeks, GEST and TAFE Gippsland’s Business Services team of Daniel Webster and Shelby Kent, have been collaborating to deliver “Unbeatable Customer Service: Contact Centres” training program to Latrobe Valley Local Jobs Program clients.

This three-week short course provides skills and knowledge in unbeatable customer service for working in the Contact Centre sector.

A group of 17 students in March have gained skills and knowledge in communication and managing difficult customers, time management and work prioritisation as well as resilience, interview and resume writing skills along with building their own brand.

Many guest presenters provided an insight into working in the Contact Centre environment; including our very own Rhonda Noble, who spoke of what are the important skills required in this environment.

Throughout the course, an opportunity to build and develop their technology skills was interwoven into the program.   The program has supported the students with introductions to many of the local Contact Centre employers including Aussie Broadband, Alinta Energy, Solar Vic and Adica Insurance. Job opportunities have been presented to the students with two confirmed employment offers and another three waiting to hear from employers.

In their final week, the students had the opportunity to visit the new sections of TAFE Gippsland’s Morwell Campus and experience first-hand what studying locally looks like.

Many were visibly impressed by the learning environment TAFE Gippsland provides which included presentations by Paul Clerks (Hospitality), Kristy Barrett (Health and Early Childhood), Peter Quinn (Plumbing) and Brad Schnur (Electrical).  The tour was organised and facilitated by Adam Dodd from Facilities and included an introduction to the Skills & Jobs Centre with Buffie Harris.

The partnership with GEST’s Scott Mitchell and Kat Simpson and TAFE Gippsland’s staff, have ensured a quality program with the aim of providing job opportunities to local people.

This program is running its third intake this month, with a final intake planned prior to the end of the financial year.
