Two major capital works projects are starting to take real shape at our TAFE Gippsland Morwell campus, with the Horticulture Modernisation Project reaching a significant milestone recently and the Clean Energy Centre well on its way.

Horticulture Modernisation Project

What’s been happening

The greenhouse is almost ready for action with Powerplants Australia officially handing it over on 27 August following extensive user testing.

During the handover, the Horticulture and Conservation Environmental Management teams learnt all about how the automatic control systems, learning how to manage temperature, humidity and activate watering systems.

With occupancy permits issued and the site cleaned up and student ready, equipment from the existing shed has now been relocated into the newly built potting shed. In addition, one of the horticulture sheds has also been demolished to make way for the construction of the new machinery and storage shed.

What’s next

Once construction of the new shed takes place, the remaining two horticulture sheds will be demolished to make way for an open area to be created for plant storage and growing. Planning is also underway for fencing and security to protect these new facilities.
