TAFE Gippsland is encouraging locals with an interest in serving on non-profit and Government-appointed boards to apply for The Observership Program.

The Program provides placements for talented and energetic young people (aged 25-40) or first-hand exposure to the role of the board, its decision-making and operations as well as targeted training and mentorship designed to give Observers important skills to bring to the boardroom.

During the 12-month placement, Observers attend all board meetings as non-voting members and learn about fundamental principles and functions of not-for-profit and Government-appointed boards, the roles of board members, fiscal processes and other governance priorities.

Training is provided through the Australian Institute of Company Directors and The Ethics Centre, covering subject areas essential for not-for-profit governance, with high profile guest speakers.

This is the third year TAFE Gippsland will be participating in the program and is committed to placing Gippslanders as Observers.

The Program is a valuable professional development opportunity for individuals, but also for local employers seeking to support their emerging leaders.
