TAFE Gippsland has celebrated its largest graduation event to date, with 242 students graduating across two ceremonies at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon on Tuesday 12 May.

The milestone event brought together graduating students, families, friends and supporters to celebrate the achievements of learners from a wide range of study areas and campuses across the region.

The scale of this year’s celebration reflected growing demand for training and education pathways across Gippsland, with TAFE Gippsland expanding the event to two ceremonies in one evening for the first time.

TAFE Gippsland CEO James Montgomery said the event was an important opportunity to recognise the dedication and determination of students.

“Graduation is a milestone moment for our students and their families, and it was incredibly rewarding to see so many people come together to celebrate their achievements,” Mr Montgomery said.

“At TAFE Gippsland, we’re proud to help people build skills, confidence and career pathways that strengthen our local communities and industries. Seeing 242 students graduate is a fantastic reflection of the impact vocational education is having across Gippsland.”

Graduands celebrated qualifications ranging from certificates through to diplomas, with many already moving into employment or further study.

Among those crossing the stage was 23-year-old Amber Leyshan, who received her Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication after completing her apprenticeship with AGL last year.

The 2025 Victorian Training Awards Apprentice of the Year also addressed the audience on the night and said the event was a fitting way to celebrate the end of her study journey with TAFE Gippsland.

“Graduating isn’t just about passing assessments or completing placement hours — it’s about the resilience, discipline and determination it takes to keep showing up, especially on the days that felt overwhelming,” Amber said.

“A qualification is more than a certificate — it’s proof that you can commit to something challenging and see it through. It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout at this year’s graduation and to celebrate the hard work of our students alongside the incredible support we receive from the community.”
