Sam Reid believes learning is all about giving it a go.
After completing his painting and decorating apprenticeship with TAFE Gippsland at 17, Sam has come full circle – back in the old campus workshop almost two decades later, guiding the region’s next generation in this creative trade.
With 18 years of industry experience in a broad range of residential and commercial painting and decorating environments, Sam’s keen to pass on his extensive expertise. From new and existing homes to commercial factories, epoxy flooring, concrete coatings, steelwork and protective coatings, he brings real-world knowledge that prepares students for the demands of the job.
“I like to encourage students to ‘have a go’, providing supportive, constructive feedback to build their confidence and independence and help them achieve their best,” Sam said.
His open-door approach plays a big role in building strong relationships with students and local employers alike. By keeping communication lines open with workplaces to discuss student progress, Sam helps ensure training aligns closely with industry standards and employer expectations.
