Seven TAFE Gippsland campuses will remain closed for the next week, due to the current fire situation in East Gippsland.

With a State of Disaster declared over much of Eastern Victoria, fires threatening local communities and with numerous road closures and restrictions, the campuses will not reopen following the Christmas holiday period.

TAFE Gippsland Chief Executive, Mr Grant Radford, advised that the Institute’s Bairnsdale, Bairnsdale Trade Training Centre, Forestec (Kalimna West) and Seamec (Lakes Entrance) campuses, and its Wellington Shire campuses of Sale Gtec, Sale Flexible Learning Centre and Fulham, would remain closed to staff and students from Monday 6 January to Friday 10 January 2020.

“This decision has been made in consultation with Victorian state government and emergency service authorities,” Mr Radford said.

“Reopening of our East Gippsland and Wellington campuses will depend on the state of the Gippsland fires and on the best advice available over the next few days.”

All TAFE Gippsland staff and those in the Bairnsdale, Wellington and surrounding regions in particular, are being kept advised of developments, and updates will be posted to social media on reopening the campuses for the 2020 TAFE training year.

Staff will be working with current and enrolling student cohorts to provide individual information as required.

A further update will be provided when the current fire emergency situation eases.
