TAFE Gippsland and Federation University have formalised their strategic partnership to support students through every stage of their post school journey.
The two organisations recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding that commits to working hand in glove to promote opportunity in Gippsland to pathway from TAFE to university in all sectors, but particularly in new and emerging sectors.
With almost 30 formal articulation pathways already in place between the two institutions, students have clear and supported options to move from vocational to higher education, building skills and confidence along the way.
TAFE Gippsland CEO Laura Macpherson said both organisations had a responsibility to provide high quality education and training, enhance student success and contribute to the economic and social development of the region.
“This MoU formalises our arrangement of working together for the betterment of our students, local industry and Gippsland as a whole,” she said.
“We are committed to provide students with structured opportunities for progression and skills development and ensure students, particularly those from diverse or disadvantaged backgrounds receive necessary support to succeed – whether they are studying with TAFE Gippsland, Federation University or transitioning between one to the other.”
Federation University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley, said the University was working closely with TAFE Gippsland to address regional workforce needs during a critical time in Gippsland’s economic transition.
“We are proud to partner with TAFE Gippsland to foster a culture of lifelong learning within the region by ensuring students have access to education and the flexible learning options they need to achieve their education and career dreams,” Professor Bentley said.
“Together we will work on research projects that improve educational practices, enhance the readiness of the local workforce and address regional development challenges.”
TAFE Gippsland and Federation University have jointly funded an annual scholarship program that supports Diploma graduates who wish to transition into undergraduate study at Federation University. These scholarships provide vital financial support and have already helped many students continue their education with confidence.
Scholarship recipient Rebekah Flood graduated from her Diploma of Nursing with TAFE Gippsland in 2021 and is using the scholarship to assist in her transition to Federation University to study her Bachelor of Nursing.
“I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for granting me the scholarship, thank you very much. The scholarship has helped me a lot. I am using the scholarship money to help with out-of-pocket placement costs such as uniforms, accommodation, fuel, food etc. Being awarded the scholarship demonstrates great humanity and compassion in supporting me in my journey to become a Registered Nurse. Thank you for believing in me.” – Rebekah Flood, 2024 scholarship recipient
“I have commenced my Bachelor of Nursing through the 2nd year intake after completing my Diploma of Nursing with TAFE Gippsland. This scholarship is assisting me to pay my tuition fees, reducing my financial burden. Thank you once again for offering me this scholarship.” – Paulwyn Hendricks, 2024 scholarship recipient.
“I have recently completed the first semester of my studies through the enrolled nurse to registered nurse entry, which though TAFE Gippsland I received credits for my first year of the Bachelor degree. I looked into the diploma at TAFE Gippsland, got in and completed the course which has then led to where I am today, not completing my Bachelor of Nursing so that I can enhance my skills to better care for people.” – Tahlia McCormack, scholarship recipient.
